Thank you IAP2 for hosting such a stimulating convergence over the last two days. Many stories were shared on the topic community engagement - stories from, fire, flood and earthquake affected communities, communities in transition, and of skill building, advocacy and empowerment in communities around the world.
A snapshot of brilliance from Christchurch, where a big donation of Lego is enabling children to help plan the rebuilding of the city, or for the drought affected community of farmers in the Murray Darling Basin who retrained in conservation and land management and through eight new community nurseries are regenerating the land, employment and resilience to future drought.
I was relieved to see so many practitioners dedicated to real public participation as opposed to tokenism, and inspired by the methods which see real power channelled into the hands of those most affected.
